In Exodus 34: 8, Moses describes God as "a God of tenderness and compassion, slow to anger, rich in kindness and faithfulness." This is a God feels the pain of others, the pain of those who have emerged out of God's creative energy, a God who is reluctant to give way to those emotions that are aroused by the offences of human subjects, and a God who still stands by those who fail to live up to their commitments.
Paul's second reading to the Corinthians (13:11-13) speaks more specifically about God as Trinity. Through Jesus, the life of God is poured over us; through the Creator, the love of God embraces us; through the Spirit of God we are called into communion with God and with one another. It is a wonderful description of the dynamic and love-filled movement that flows through the creative and life-giving presence of God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Then, in the Gospel reading about part of the conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus, we hear of the purpose of God's entry into the world of his creation. It is to fulfil the initial purpose of creation, that all may be a true reflection of God's love and may eventually their way back home to be with the source of their goodness and life. May God the Creator, the Savior and Spirit bless us now and forever. Amen.
